Kitab Trinjan, Lahore

Book Seller, Distributor, Publisher

Based on information provided by Zubair Ahmed in a message Sept. 03/09

Decision to Close Shop
The Executive Council of Kitab Trinjan (KT) unanimously decided to close Kitab Trinjan as of September 30/09. This comes after 12 years of hard work and community building by the staff and supporters of KT. The first venue for Kitab Trinjan was rented on September 1, 1997.

Reasons Offered
The following reasons were offered for this decision.
1. When Kitab Trinjan was established in 1997, there was no Punjabi Book shop but now Suchat Kitab Ghar (Maqsood Saqib) and Sanjh Publications (Amjad Saleem) are not only publishing quality material but are also distributing Punjabi books. They are full time workers earning their livelihood from this work.

2. As Suchat Kitab Ghar is doing the same work, it was thought pertinet to support Suchet Kitab Ghar rather than to support both.

3. Kitab Trinjan is based on volunteer work done mainly by Zubair Ahmad, and volunteer work has its own limitations. With the passage of time, rush in the city, and increasing distances have made it hectic for Zubair to continue.

4. Being a creative writer, Zubair wants to give more time to his reading and writing, an area that has suffered during the last 12 years.

KT's Contributions
In the last 12 years, Kitan Trinjan has sold more than 120,000 (12 Lakhs) books, and has purchased about 7,71,635 books from other Punjabi publishers for sales and distribution. Trinjan has organized book stalls at various places and events including Mela Shah Hussain, and the yearly celebration of Buleh Shah at Bagh-e-Jinnah. Kitab Trinjan did not take financial help from any govterment or non-government agency. Trinjan has maintained its accounts well that were frequently checked by the members of Executive Council.
