Chairman of Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, Diwan Manna, shared with the audience that it is the first Akademi in this region to have its own website. The best thing about the site is that it is an elaborate, easily accessible and aesthetically designed and executed site- perhaps one of the best in its category and has been designed by one of the well known web design companies. The website is designed to make information available on the net, for a global viewer ship about art, its creators, related activities and events from the tricity of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.

He further stated that this is a large website with features such as Artists’ directory- with art works, profiles and addresses of artists from the city; past and future events of the Akademi; Scholarship holders’ works, profiles; names of the sponsors; memorabilia items produced by the Akademi; pictorial representation of the already organized events; exhibitions; collections of the Akademi; workshops; videos of the lectures and events held; online journal; press coverage; downloadable forms for applications; info about other art galleries, museums, and art institutes in the tricity; related links to important museums and art institutes of the world; and, a special feature which will keep changing - Featured Artist. The first featured artist on the home page of the site is none other than the legendary Nek Chand.

Professor Goswamy spoke about the need, role, purpose and importance of intelligently designed websites in today’s world. He stressed on the urgency and constant up gradation of websites to keep them alive and the interest of viewers intact. He also appreciated the quality, content and design of the site while congratulating the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi for its efforts. He went on to say that this has the potential of becoming one of the great sites among all the sites related to art institutes, academies and cultural centers.

It is now a well established fact that ther creation of websites has given a boost to the development of art and artists, both in getting art appreciators and buyers and reaching to different parts of the world without physically taking the works of art to different corners of the globe. It also provides access to public to the art work and art activities in the region. With this the Akademi hopes to be able to disseminate art and culture in a better, easy and quicker way.

Professor B. N. Goswamy gave away certificates of appreciation to the owners of the design company Intelligaia - Rajiv and Cheena Kaul, its programmers and to the very active members of the Akademi - Bheem Malhotra, Ritu M. Bansal and Parul Dar, who burnt midnight oil and spent months to execute this task.

May I request you to kindly cover this event and help us reach a wider audience?
